You never actually get it, do you? You never get that when I say something like "I wish I was getting an iPod" you don't take it literally. You don't say "Well, we're paying $1500 for you to go to Morocco and we got you concert tickets." You don't DO things like that. You don't get it, do you? You don't make your own daughter feel like complete and total shit, you laugh it off and say "you can wish". You don't guilt her into not wanting an iPod or you don't guilt her into crawling back into her hole to die. You brush it off like nothing ever happened and move on. You don't keep the subject going.
So here's a note to all you moms out there: Do not. I repeat, DO NOT. Make your teenage daughters feel like this, even if she did do something like the situation explained above. DON'T make her feel like she's worthless, mainly because you won't know how she'll take it.
